The visual and sensory connection with a uniquely Suhel natural setting was the red thread for this project. This was expressed by fusing inside and outside as seamlessly as possible, and by using as few vernacular and true materials as possible. The goal was to achieve comfortable, functional minimalism so that the clients could enjoy every space to the fullest and detach from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The floor-to-ceiling windows and neutral color and material palette ensure that the natural landscape beyond is the design’s hero. The materials were carefully chosen and kept simple in order to highlight the house’s modern shape and frame the surrounding nature and natural lighting. The scheme features natural heavily textured woven textiles, light natural and smoked oak furniture, and a strong graphic identity as a counterpoint to the simple palette of hard materials.
The white house Residence is a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, turn off cell phones, and consider the bigger, more important picture. To spend more time with their children, to feel more at ease, and to live a simpler life. These were the client’s aspirations for their sand dune retreat. The amount of time they return to it attests to its success.
